HARDEMAN DEMANDS NURS PL8 IN TIME FOR CHRISTMAS

QUEEN’S PARK – Ernie Hardeman, MPP for Oxford, today questioned the Premier in the Ontario Legislature on why a request for a personalized licence plate PRSHNURS was refused.

“Premier you said in a scrum this morning that this is one of those things government does that makes them “outright laughable,” said Hardeman. “It wasn’t laughable to the constituent who was supposed to get this plate as a Christmas present.”

The licence plate PRSHNURS (Parish Nurse) was requested for a retired nurse who volunteers at the Church of the Epiphany. Personalized licence plates requested were reviewed by a committee of civil servants. The committee rejected the plate because it would be considered to have a religious connotation.

During a scrum this morning Premier McGuinty said he had reversed the decision for one licence plate applicant who had requested a new copy her REV JO licence plates.

This morning the Premier announced some changes to the process for renewing personalized plates, but the change would not effect new applications.

Hardeman displayed a mock up of the licence plate and asked the Premier to identify the religious connotation.

“Since the Minister and Premier seemed unable to decipher the licence plate and identify the religious connotation I don’t believe that this licence plate is likely to cause any issues on the roads,” said Hardeman.
