GRANT WILL HELP BIG BROTHERS AND BIG SISTERS HELP MORE KIDS

INGERSOLL – Ernie Hardeman MPP for Oxford presented Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Ingersoll, Tillsonburg & Area with a plaque today to celebrate the Trillium grant which will allow them to help even more youth.

“Big Brothers/Big Sisters has made a difference in the lives of so many young people and this funding will help them reach even more,” said Hardeman. “I commend all the staff and volunteers at Big Brothers and Big Sisters and encourage others to take time to make a difference in the lives of our youth.”

Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Ingersoll, Tillsonburg & Area received a $54,000 Trillium grant over two years to enable the organization to increase its mentoring services to boys and girls in Ingersoll and Tillsonburg by hiring a resource development co-ordinator.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Ingersoll, Tillsonburg & Area has over 150 volunteers and in 2006 they were able to help 74 children through one-on-one mentoring relationships and 32 children through group programs.

“We are very excited to receive the Trillium Foundation’s support in our efforts to recruit more volunteers through effective marketing strategies and to create a more sustainable funding base through sponsorship initiatives and enhanced special events. The hiring of a Resource Development Coordinator will assist our agency in achieving our strategic goals – of serving 200 children by 2008.” said Executive Director Deb Landon.
