Liberal Gas Tax Formula Not Equitable for Oxford

WOODSTOCK - Today the Liberals announced yet another study which won’t report until well after the next provincial election pointed out Ernie Hardeman, M.P.P. for Oxford.

“The commission to study pensions is just one more example of the Liberals launching a long drawn-out study instead of dealing with an issue,” Ernie Hardeman. “The people who worked hard at Co-op, Metal Technologies and Sivaco deserve assistance and reassurance about their pension now not in the summer of 2008.”

The McGuinty Government today announced a commission to review pension legislation in Ontario with a report expected in the summer of 2008.

On August 14, 2006 the McGuinty government announced the Provincial-Municipal Fiscal and Service delivery review which will not report for 18 months. Mr. Hardeman’s private members’ resolution which was passed in the legislature called on the McGuinty government to complete the review expediently to avoid hitting taxpayers with large unsustainable tax hikes. There no new announcements on this

After the Ombudsman of Ontario released a scathing report on the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) the McGunity government froze property assessments. The Liberal government recently introduced Bill 151 which would to re-establish current value assessment with three years of assessment increases (2005-2008) hitting taxpayers in 2009, conveniently after the next provincial election.

“People don’t need problems just studied, they need them solved. They deserve a government willing to take action, not just say anything to get elected.” Said Hardeman
