| For immediate release Throne Speech Short on New Ideas
QUEEN’S PARK – Ernie Hardeman, MPP for Oxford, said that the McGuinty government’s throne speech today was short on the new ideas and plans needed to get Ontario back on track. “Today Dalton McGuinty missed an opportunity to address the many serious challenges that our province is facing,” said Hardeman. “The deficit problem has not been solved; there was no clear plan to bring jobs back to Ontario and nothing was done to help the farmers who are about to lose their farms.” Dalton McGuinty prorogued the Ontario Legislature on Thursday March 4 in order to open a new session with the speech from the throne today. The prorogation killed numerous private members bills including Hardeman’s bill to make carbon monoxide detectors mandatory in all Ontario homes. “Dalton McGuinty killed many worthwhile private members bill’s, including the Hawkins Gignac Act, in order to offer Ontarians platitudes and reannouncements of existing programs,” said Hardeman. Hardeman also pointed out that the announcement to create new student spaces is simply a reaction to current shortages caused by the many unemployed adults are trying to go back to school. “Ontario can, should, and must lead again – but to do so, we must turn the page on the broken promises and failed policies of the past,” said Ontario PC leader Tim Hudak. “Our Ontario PC Caucus will continue to stand up for the seniors, families and small businesses who are paying more but getting less under this government.”
