For Immediate Release Sakura House gets Funding for Renovations WOODSTOCK – Today Ernie Hardeman, MPP for Oxford, congratulated Oxford VON, operators of Sakura House, on receiving nearly $1 million for capital renovations from the Ontario government. “Many people have been working hard to ensure that Sakura House will be able to serve the community,” said Hardeman. “I am pleased that the Ontario government is able to help by contributing $969,000 towards the capital costs of getting the building ready to occupy.” Toyota Motor Manufacturing Inc. donated a building to the VON Oxford to serve as a hospice. Extensive renovations are required to turn the former mansion into a residential end-of-life hospice, including installation of an elevator, private baths in each patient room and new environmental systems. Oxford VON has been working hard to raise the money required for the renovations and has held numerous fundraising events, including the annual Hike for Hospice. “Since the beginning Sakura House has been about generosity and community. It was through the generosity of Toyota that the building was available and it is through the generosity of the community that it will be able to help terminally ill patients and their families,” said Hardeman. “While today’s announcement is a huge step forward for Sakura House community support is still needed.”
