| For immediate release No Relief in Budget for Ontario familes QUEEN’S PARK – Oxford MPP Ernie Hardeman said that today’s budget failed to provide the relief that Ontario families need. “At events across the riding, at Tim Horton’s and in my office I hear the same thing – HST, new taxes and hydro increases have made it difficult for families to make ends meet,” said Hardeman. “In the budget today Dalton McGuinty had an opportunity to help Ontario families and he failed.” There was no tax relief for families in the budget and spending continues to increase. Since 2003 Ontario government spending has increased over 70 percent during which time the economy grew by just 9 percent. “Today’s budget was short on details and new ideas,” said Hardeman. “It demonstrated that this is still a tax and spend government that is out of touch with the reality of what Ontario families are facing.” Ontario’s debt has increased by 73 percent under Dalton McGuinty to a whopping $257 billion. He is currently on pace to double Ontario’s debt by 2012. “After eight years, it’s clear only two things are guaranteed with Dalton McGuinty…he will raise taxes and increase spending,” said Ontario PC leader, Tim Hudak. “It’s Dalton McGuinty’s routine: break promise, tax, spend and repeat.” - 30 - For more information, contact: |
