| For Immediate Release Hardeman Reappointed Critic for Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs QUEEN’S PARK – Today Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak demonstrated his confidence in Ernie Hardeman, Oxford MPP, by reappointing him as Official Opposition critic for Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. “I have enjoyed working with the agriculture industry and rural community and I’m pleased to be able to continue in that important role,” said Hardeman. “There a number of significant concerns facing both rural communities and the agriculture sector. The PC Caucus will continue to ensure those concerns are heard in the Ontario Legislature.” Hardeman served as critic for Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs since 2008. Previously Hardeman served in a number of roles including Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Associate Minister of Municipal Affairs – Rural and opposition critic for Municipal Affairs and Housing. Before being elected to provincial parliament Hardeman operated Hardeman Feed Ltd and was elected to a number of municipal positions including Warden of Oxford County and Mayor of South-West Oxford. Today’s announcement included the appointment of Randy Pettapiece, newly elected Perth-Wellington MPP, as Deputy Critic for Agriculture. Hardeman said he looks forward to working with Pettapiece to address the many concerns of agriculture and rural Ontario. “The agriculture industry and food processors have identified red tape and excessive paperwork as a significant issue and we will continue to push for that to be reduced,” said Hardeman. “We need to ensure that farmers have the tools they need to success and that government isn’t holding them back.” “Farmers and rural Ontario sent a clear message to the McGuinty government that the government wasn’t working for them,” said Hardeman. “We look forward to working with the agriculture industry and rural Ontario to ensure that message isn’t forgotten and they get the changes they need to help them succeed.” - 30 -
